"We live in a world of racism and patriarchy, of capitalist cruelty and the infantile culture it produces. The immediacy of modern communications has made that world more transparent then ever before. A jury in Miami declares that white men shooting black men is not a crime. In Greece sex workers, drug users and undocumented immigrants can now be forced to undergo testing for HIV and hepatitis and risk public shaming and/or losing their homes if proven positive. Russia is well on their way to criminalizing homosexuality altogether. All in a scroll of the news feed, between LOLcats and Boiler Room links. The world is burning – same as it ever was. So who are we to make mixtapes and parties, start bands, make films and write books?

We are warriors.

Every time we make a sick beat, write a mind-blowing poem or create a space for people to be more than they imagine themselves to be, we are waging war on the status quo. If you engage, you are partaking in the jihad against boredom, stagnation and sameness. The boxes will always be there, but so will the people kicking down the sides. It doesn’t give you an excuse to opt out of politics or ignore systematic errors. With great powers come great responsibilities, and great powers are to be found in pirated software, abandoned factory spaces and your own mind."
